Putting Things in Perspective

Our project is coming along extremely well. We have chosen to take footage of the life of a man who has been living with HIV/AIDS for 18 years. His name is Jimmy Calnan. He is one of the most amazing people you will ever meet. He is outgoing, friendly, positive, and selfless. After being diagnosed with HIV in 1982, during the beginning of the HIV and AIDS debacles, he has dedicated his life to raising awareness about AIDS and ways to take control of your own health. He was told he had 6 months to 2 years to live twenty years ago. He truly has defeated all odds. His optimism and positivity truly shine through his character and his devotion to living is incredible. Listening to the challenges that he has faced throughout his life, which he has overcome with smiles, truly allows myself to realize how fortunate I am. There are many more people out in the world like Jimmy and sometimes it takes a face to face encounter with a hero to truly realize what is meaningful in the world. We have chosen to video him at his doctor's appointment with his vascular surgeon as well as at the Mazzoni Center where he volunteers. Please check back for updates regarding our project. I am extremely excited about this and believe this will be one of the best experiences over my 4 years at SJU.

  1. He's so amazing!! I still can't stop thinking about him. He really puts things into perspectives and makes you wonder how you could complain about little things going on in your life when he has to deal with so much on his plate. It was truly an amazing experience and I can't wait to work on our final project!
